About the artists:

Hermine A. Sammut:
Born March 1965 in Vienna - city of music and art. I grew up in a very creative family which was the base of my creativity.
In 1986 I qualified as a teacher. Through self-teaching and attending specified courses I developed my artistic and creative skills and was permitted to teach Art & Crafts at schools. In 1995 I married a Maltese and moved to Malta. There I continued my studies at the Art School Ghajnsielem and at private lessons. From 1996 to 2003 I lectured Art, Craft & Design and German at the ITS Malta. Since 2004 I have participated in & organized exhibitions locally and abroad, showing my contemporary 3 dimensional artworks, sculptures and jewellery, inspired by the colours of the island Gozo. I like to reflect my impressions, feelings and thoughts in acrylic paintings, 3 dimensional artwork, sculptures and designer jewellery.

Jackie Roberts:
Originally from England , creates art in metal from a workshop in Ghasri. Inspired by the natural world, particularly the sea, and the fusion of different cultures and traditions Jackie has become especially known for realistic Mediterranean fish hand-crafted from metal. She often incorporates recycled metal and found material into her work; experimenting recently with three dimensional, abstract and representational forms.  She uses mild steel, copper and brass coloured using a technique of ‘painting’ with heat.  Jackie teaches artistic metalwork to adults; undertakes commissions and shows her work in galleries, restaurants, bars. She has taken part in collective exhibitions in Scotland and throughout Malta and Gozo; exhibiting at Gallery G, Artitude, and the Eden Foundation collective exhibitions.

Paintings by Derek Roberts

Derek R. Roberts, born 1928, in Yorkshire, England returned to painting after he retired and now lives in Sannat, Gozo and in the Yorkshire Dales. At the start of his career he served an apprenticeship and obtained a City and Guilds in Interior Design. He then spent forty years in business as an interior designer, painter and decorator.

Derek now paints abstracts; land and seascapes; architectural, human and animal subjects usually in acrylics, with a bold use of colour and texture. He also paints intricate traditional designs on bespoke furniture. Since first visiting the Maltese islands in 2002 Derek has been captivated by the landscapes, culture and heritage of these islands which continue to inspire his work.  His work is in private collections throughout Europe and he undertakes commissions and interior design projects.  In April 2006 he held his first solo exhibition at Gallery G in Malta, followed in September that year by a joint exhibition at ArtBox in Gozo with his daughter Jackie. Derek has shown his work in collective exhibitions in Malta and Gozo and in August this year will participate in a collective exhibition in Ripon Cathederal in England.
Rachel Robinson trained as a metalsmith and jewellery designer in the UK during the 1990s. Moving to work in museums and galleries, her design work was largely put on hold until a move to Gozo in January 2008. She now works from home in Gharb, working in enamels and textiles to produce a range of bold and fun jewellery and other art pieces.
